One killed, three injured in crash on U.S. Highway 331 in Walton County

One person was killed and several others were seriously injured in a collision on U.S. Highway 331 North on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. 

Two cars that were heading in opposite directions on U.S. 331 were approaching Andy Nowling Road about 12:17 p.m. One of the cars, driven by an 85-year-old man from DeFuniak Springs, attempted to make a left turn onto Andy Nowling Road and crossed directly into the path of the other vehicle.

The driver of the second car, a 17-year-old girl from DeFuniak Springs, swerved to avoid a collision, but collided head-on with a pickup truck traveling behind the first driver, FHP reported. 

The collision caused the truck to overturn onto its roof. The car the 17-year-old was driving spun counter-clockwise and came to a stop in the south lanes of U.S. 331 facing north.

The 17-year-old and a passenger in her vehicle, an 18-year-old man from DeFuniak Springs, were seriously injured. 

The driver of the pickup, a 65-year-old man of Florosa, Alabama, was killed in the crash, and a passenger, a 65-year-old woman, also from Florosa, was critically injured. 

The initial car continued traveling west on Andy Nowling Road and the 85-year-old driver was not injured.
