In an effort to help those on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, Publix grocery stores will offer designated shopping hours for first responders and hospital workers beginning Thursday.

Publix has designated from 8 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays and 7 to 8 a.m. on Fridays as special shopping hours for hospital staff and first responders.

The designated hours will remain in effect until further notice, the company said Wednesday. Publix stores are open to the general public daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Last month, Publix and other grocery chains began offering special shopping hours for the elderly and customers with underlying health concerns.

Publix stores are open from 7 to 8 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays for customers age 65 and older.
