We are doing it again.

October 2018 will never be forgotten in all our minds, including our children’s minds. Hurricane Michael left a storm in our lives. Homes were destroyed, lives were lost, and valued possessions gone but through it all we were always for the children.

Last month, children got out of school for spring break. They were expecting to finally get a break and have some fun. Not knowing that the week of spring break would be a time they would never forget.

While the challenge this time is not the aftermath of a hurricane, we are faced with a new challenge — a storm like no other called COVID-19.

We all did phenomenal job putting things back together and this time will be no different. Many face job loss or new work demands. Paying bills, finding groceries and toiletries is no easy task today. And to add to all this new stress is caring for children at home. But guess what … you are doing a great job!

We must remember to not be hard on ourselves and let the things that are not essential go. Preparing that gourmet meal, you did before, don’t worry about it. If you let the kids watch more TV than you did in the past, its OK. If children want chicken nuggets, let them have them. Do what whatever makes your life just a little less stressful.

Our children can go through anything if they have a loving family and a community that supports them.

Know your community stands with you and supports you every step of the way.

During Hurricane Michael we said “850 strong”. And now we say, “Stay Safe” and “stay home.”
