The Florida Department of Health reported 245 additional COVID-19 deaths Tuesday, the third-highest total since the pandemic began.

The state's seven-day average for reported deaths also increased to a record 183.57. Tuesday broke a brief respite from triple-figure reported COVID-19 fatalities as just 62 were announced Sunday and 73 Monday.

The Department of Health also reported a total of 5,446 positive cases Tuesday, bringing Florida's cumulative total to 497,330.

Tuesday marked the 10th straight day the state reported fewer than 10,000 new cases. However, for the second consecutive day, the state recorded less than 32,000 additional tests. Florida's cumulative positivity rate increased to 13.12% Tuesday.

The number of Florida residents hospitalized with COVID-19 increased to 27,952 since the pandemic began. The Department of Health notes the total figure is cumulative and does not reflect the number of COVID-19 patients currently in hospitals.
