Alaqua Pet of the Week — Poppy

Special to The Sun

Poppy is a six-year-old Jack Russel/Chihuahua mix who was rescued from a local shelter after his owner suddenly passed away. He arrived with his sister Marigold, and for a while, they were inseparable. They slowly began to grow apart after each having a lengthy stay at the Refuge.

Poppy and Marigold were accepted into our Unconditional Love Program where they learned obedience and social skills and gained some much needed confidence and independence. Marigold found her forever home upon graduating from the program.

Now, it is Poppy’s turn. He became very bonded to his inmate throughout the program and we know that bond will be recreated in the right home. He's a little shy at first, but he'll eventually show you his sweet and loving personality. He loves being held and giving kisses. Poppy truly just wants to be a member of a family.

Poppy’s adoption fee is $200 which includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccines and his graduation certificate. If you are interested in him, please fill out an application at
