St. Lucie West Centennial High School student tests positive for COVID-19
ST. LUCIE COUNTY — Almost 200 district students and 53 staff members were sent home this week to quarantine after students tested positive for COVID-19 in the first week of school.
Four students tested positive this week, said spokeswoman Lydia Martin. On Friday, schools were notified that a student at St. Lucie West Centennial High School had tested positive, prompting the school to send home eight staff members and 106 students, Martin said.
Lincoln Park Academy, St. Lucie West K-8 and F.K. Sweet also have had students test positive this week, Martin said.
A total of 198 students and 53 staff members are now quarantining and will continue instruction online at home for 14 days, Martin said.
St. Lucie County School District students returned Monday to the classroom for the first time since March, when schools offered virtual instruction because of COVID-19 concerns.
