1 person, 5 pets killed in Freeport fire
FREEPORT — One person and five pets were killed Sunday in a house fire.
According to a press release from Walton County Fire rescue, the incident occurred on County Highway 3280 about 11 a.m.
Firefighters and Walton County sheriff’s deputies arrived to find smoke and flames coming from a bedroom in a single-wide mobile home. They were told someone might be inside.
“Walton County Fire Rescue crews quickly jumped into action and began battling the blaze,” the release said. “Unfortunately, one resident and five pets were later found deceased in the home.”
The victim was not immediately identified.
An investigator with State Fire Marshal’s office responded to investigate the cause of the blaze. The fire is not believed to be suspicious.
