The South Walton High School Competitive Cheerleading team won the Region 1A Large Non-Tumbling Varsity State title last Saturday at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa.

“This is a huge accomplishment for our team,” said South Walton Cheer Coach Ashlee Scarpulla.

“We are the first cheerleading team to win a state title in Walton county.”

“The Wednesday before State competition we had an injury on the team, we had to change a lot of our routine around on Thursday evening.”

But the girls persevered.

“The first time we ran the routine full out was at the State Finals on Saturday. The teams perseverance and talent won them the state title,” she said.

“They earned it. I am so very proud,” Scarpulla said.

The South Walton cheer team left for Nationals in Orlando on Thursday.

“Our goals is to hit our routine. If we can do that, I believe the team will do very well.”
